Shanghai. January 4. INTERFAX-CHINA - China's electronic information industry generated total revenue of RMB 6.08 trillion ($890.31 billion) in 2009, up 3.39 percent year-on-year, according to figures released by China's Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) on Feb. 3.
The electronic information product manufacturing sector continued to contribute the majority of total industry revenues, generating RMB 5.13 trillion ($751.05 billion) in revenue, up 0.1 percent year-on-year. The software sector generated RMB 951.3 billion ($139.26 billion), up 25.6 percent year-on-year.
Within the period, China produced 619.25 million mobile phones, 182.15 million personal computers and 41.4 billion sets of integrated circuits, up 10.7 percent and 33.3 percent and down 0.7 percent year-on-year respectively.
The country produced telecommunication base stations capable of supporting 30.22 million channels during the year, skyrocketing by 102.2 percent from the same period last year, boosted by the accelerated 3G network roll out.
Total import and export values dropped 12.8 percent year-on-year to $771.9 billion in 2009, of which import value declined 13.5 percent on an annual basis to $314.7 billion while export value was $457.2 billion, down 12.5 percent year-on-year.
Foreign-owned electronic information product manufacturers underperformed compared to their wholly Chinese-owned counterparts, both state and privately run. Foreign-owned manufacturers also lagged behind Sino-foreign joint ventures in terms of revenue growth in 2009, according to the MIIT.
